Sid Tipton’s latest track Look Both Ways, produced by legendary producer Timbaland is just, super cool. It’s a track you can really vibe to. There’s something so refreshing about her contemporary R&B feel that reminds us of a Summer Walker track mixed with the the vocal lightness of Kehlani or Ariana Grande. We sat down with the Nashville-raised artist about her music and her career so far.

Tell us more about Look Both Ways- how did it come together/ what do you hope an audience will feel when they listen to it? When did you decide to pursue music as a career?

“LBW- I got to be flown to Miami (I love Miami) to write for an artist and it didn’t work out. when that happens I usually like to write anyway cuz I feel like I just gotta get that energy out. when I heard the music I went in the booth immediately. I hope listeners just wanna move to it, play it in the background, enjoy it...I think that was my goal, to make shit that can just live in the background no matter what you’re doing...driving, partying, whateva (!) thats my favorite time to listen to music. ....

my whole life I was just instinctually 'making things up' and sitting people down to sing for them. lol. any chance I got to do that I did.. it was kinda in my bones from the get go, i just loved it always. when it was time to go to college I was just like...nah..theres no time for that. need to go hard on this and I did. moved to la pretty much immediately and have loved being in the studio and collabing ever since.”

What are your goals for this year musically?

“so they were a lil different (lol) I think 2020 turned out a bit different for everybody but my goal for this last year was to just be consistently putting things out and working a plan, cuz I've never been great at that. I create things and lock myself in the studio and start evolving as a person too .. projects always kinda fall away cuz I get so wrapped up in the creation part of it. so its been a huge goal of mine to just put things out and have them live out there in the world! i'm working toward a project now, but I really wanted to share some records I was proud of. toward the end of the year I hope to be working with some of my favorite artists.”

Best piece of advice you have ever received?

“stay true to yourself. like just stay true to your gut/don’t let the opinions of others change urs of urself. and remember that most all your decisions in life aren't final.”

What's the worst thing people tell you about the music industry/ has anyone ever been negative about your desire to pursue a career in music?

“yeah, definitely they were negative. part time jobs I had, school, they would usually always make fun of me. I knew they were just closed minded...u can do anything u want. Ive been in the industry now for 7 years or so I feel like i've learned a lot about what I like and don't like.”

“People mostly warned me of snakey business but as long as u got ur own back It's one of the best jobs in the world.”

What's it like working with Timbaland, are you working on any more tracks together?

“first of all it's been surreal. he was one of my favorite producers before I even knew what a producer was. music is like embedded in his mind and the energy we give back and forth is pretty special. there have been some things here and there. some ideas and what not.”

If you could collaborate with any artist in the world, who would it be and why?

“ugh. I think drake. I truly just feel like the melody collab would be wako-dako.”
What's one surprising thing about you that people may not know?

“hmmm.......idk. been thinking about how I grew up in an old school church that was very gospel music driven. clapping, foot stomping...a lot of rythym. very soulful. it really designed my love for harmonies and music a lot. dont feel like ive given that enough credit.”
